Rob took a week off and we headed East- to my parents, and the beach. It was a mostly uneventful vacation (only minor sunburn for me- nice change from the year of the Devil juice) and last years day at the beach.
Since Dad helped us put in our new flooring (scroll down and look if you haven't seen it!) Rob helped Dad install an attic fan.And luck was with us~ the only thing to fall off the roof was a hammer. And just for future reference- if you're ever up on a roof and the hammer starts sliding to the edge- yell "heads up" or something. Not "Headache!" like Rob did. Luckily I was in the sunroom and a few feet from where it happened, but genius me- looked up.
We got in 3 beach days that were wonderfully relaxing. A few days before our visit however a poor 13 year old girl got bit by a bull shark~ at our beach! YIKES! She is, I am happy to report, okay. This bit of news seemed to work in our favor though because the kids were more than happy to stay in knee deep water and didn't beg to go farther out. Kels did have one funny comment though I want to share~ There were 2 girls swimming about 50 feet out and she was watching them. She turned to us and said, "I know their names. Shark and Bait." I couldn't help but laugh. Oh, Rob did get into a fight with a crab. Seriously it was man vs crab. He (Rob) was digging a hole, and he (the crab) apparently already resided in that area of sand. He kept going at the little shovel with his little claws. I took a picture of him and then tried to cover him back up but I lost my grip on the it(the shovel) and it hit him (the crab, not Rob), in the head. I heard a little crunch, but he seemed okay (or as okay as a feisty little crab can be). There is a pic of him in with the family pics below because the guilt got to me.
I am happy to say Rob and I are home, tanned relaxed and well fed (love you Mom!). The kids are still on vacation with my parents (who I think might need a vacation from their grand kids vacation after 2 weeks!) Oh, Caydie you ask? Caydie also had a nice vacation~ she played (tormented, tomato, tomotto) with my parents dog Molly, went to doggie day care and got a bath, and now thinks 2 of my parents trees are named "High Alert" and "Squirrel". At home Rob has been teaching Caydie "High Alert" for "get the birds" and she does pretty good (I offer 2 mockingbirds as proof). Oh c'mon she is a hunting dog and lets face it the only birds I really like are the ones on my plate. And obviously he is teaching her "Squirrel" for well...squirrels. We noticed though whenever we yelled those phrases she went to certain trees. I don't know if it was because that's where she last saw the squirrel or bird or if it was because she thought the trees were named 'Squirrel" and "High Alert". I'm voting the latter.
On a cute Caydie note~ this is how she spent half the ride home from my parents:
This is how she spent the other half:
My mom managed to get this quite nice (in my humble opinion) family picture of us:
But I think this one sort of suits us better:
Wouldn't you agree?
