Lucky for me it was laughter- Kelsey's laughter, but then just as she started calming down, a tiny bit of sobbing could be heard. Uh-oh. And yes, I am a little ashamed to admit my first thought was,"What did she do to him now?" And if you know Kels, you know this thought is a pretty accurate one lately~ she loves to torment Colin. Seriously. Anything she can do to get a rise out of him~ she will. But that is another blog entirely.
Before I go any further into this, let me explain something. Colin has been using this very fake, very annoying laugh lately. It's an over exaggerated cartoon laugh. At first it was funny. But it got annoying. FAST.
Usually a glance from Mom or Dad and a ,"Col." knocks it off pretty fast. Last night however, Kelsey called him on it. She asked him why he kept doing that fake laugh. The conversation went something like this:
Col: ~insert very fake, very annoying, over exaggerated cartoon laugh~
Kels: WHY are you laughing like that?!
Col: I don't remember my laugh, do you remember it?
Kels: No, but stop that fake one
Col: I can't remember what my real laugh sounds like! I LOST MY LAUGH!
cue Colin's sobbing and Kelsey's hysterical laughter (good thing she didn't lose hers!)
So what is a Mom to do when her son loses his laugh? I tickled him. And do you know the first sound he made was the very fake, very annoying, over exaggerated cartoon laugh. For a split second I had the horrifying thought this IS his real laugh, but then, just a belly tickle later, the real laugh emerged!
Colin found his laugh. And it's a good one.
The End.

Love it!! I so can relate to EVERYTHING you wrote. Even down to the annoying cartoon laugh. Matt went through that same stage. Soon, everything will be turning around. Colin will be annoying Kelsey every chance he gets. Matt can't walk by Britt without doing something to her. Thanks, once again, for sharing a funny story.

Love that story, Shell. It reminds me again how everything in our kids' lives is a phase -- things you love so much are replaced by other things you love as much, but you still miss the first things when you're reminded that they're gone. And conversely, just when you think you can't take another second of the annoying things, they're gone, too.
And I used to be the torturous big sister, so here's a fist bump for Kelsey.
I was the tormented younger sister, so Colin I totally feel your pain. Dude, my fist is raised in younger-sibling-solidarity.
Thee MOST annoying part of my summer? Slug Bug, PT Cruiser Bruiser, Ford Fit Hit (which is really a Honda, who knew?), and Tweety - all variations of the Slug Bug game in which players call out cars (whether or not they actually see them or know what that make and model even is) and punch, flick, and/or thwap whomever is within arms' length. All.summer.long. Finally I came to my senses and called a cease-fire and all members of the family were forced to sign the Treaty of the Quest, wherein anyone traveling in said Quest is not allowed to play any above mentioned games or risk being left on the side of the road.
(I own the deleted comment, too many typos...)
That is so cute....they never stop being annoying, however they can obtain the most infectious laughter that just for a moment you forget how annoying they are:)
