K-E-L-S-E-Y

The kids school had their classroom spelling bees back in October. Grades 3-5 participate. Kels won her classroom challenge last year and this year. Last year she had the flu during the school spelling bee, which makes me wonder how she would have fared in it even more, because this year:

She won the school spelling bee!

18 kids from the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade competed yesterday morning. We got down to the final 2~ Kels and another boy. They went back and forth for what seemed like an hour (But really was only about 15 minutes). Lucky for us, the parents were also very involved in it, because even after their own kids were out of the competition, they still paid attention. We even had our own "review booth" of parents- hold on, you'll see. The rule for final 2 is if 1 get a word wrong the other child gets to spell it, if they get it right, great. They need to spell another word and get it right also. If they get it wrong, it is a draw and they start over.
The word was "Immediately" (I won't even tell you my feelings about the mom behind me that said (after Kelsey said I-M..." ) "UH-UH, it's E-M" )...ANYWHO.... Both kids got it wrong, The other little boy got a word and spelled it correct and was declared the winner. Kels was fine with it. The other parents (Hello review booth!)? Not so much...glad they were paying attention...They both got Immediately wrong! Hold on..that means draw and they BOTH get a new word til one misses and the other gets it right! One mom even remembered the last 4 words and went back from there (Me? I was lucky I remembered to breathe I was so nervous for Kels). Teachers agreed, the parents were in fact correct...sorry kiddo. We keep going and you have to give your title back (Yes I do still feel bad about it. Honestly, but it was the teachers mistake). About 6 or so words later, Kelsey was declared the rightful winner. Parents cheered. Kids were congratulated. The other little boy congratulated Kelsey and she did the same. We applauded all the kids (There was a third grader still in it until the final 4!). Teachers apologized. Profusely.

Kelsey, our little spelling bee champ will go on to compete @ the local High school against all the East Regional Elementary and Middle schools (Yes she will be up against 8th graders) on December 11.

Way to go Kelsey...We are SOOOO Proud of you!

Congratulations Kelsey Rayne! What a terrific accomplishment! Spelling was one of my favorite subjects and poor spelling is a pet peeve of mine. Glad to hear you'll continue the blood line with good spelling, along with (hopefully many) of your cousins. I could feel the excitement as your mother explained how it worked, lots of ins and outs with that spelling bee!
We wish you the best of luck at the next level of competition and we think you should IMMEDIATELY give yourself a big pat on the back for this very special accomplishment. :)
Love Always,
Aunt Elaine and Uncle Keith

Way to go Kelsey!!! What a great accomplishment this is. I think I can see the bright beam from your Mom's face all the way here. You are one smart little cookie!

Now----what kind of special prize are you going to receive from your parents?!?! I hope you have already asked that question. ;)

Love,
