My body is home but my mind is still on vacation. Must be the wonderful memories we created this week. No, that was not sarcasm, but utter sincerity (I know I didn't recognize it at first either!).
We had a fantastic week. The kids were already at my parents so Rob, Caydance and I headed out on Monday the 6th~ At 6:30...in the AM. I was missing the kids pretty badly (12 days away at this point), and I was READY!
No sooner did we get there that I decided I wanted to go to the USS Battleship North Carolina. We drive past it every time we drive to my parents and they have toured it twice already, even the kids were on it, but I never have been. What an experience. You do a self guided tour through the ship and can touch everything (No kidding, I think Kelsey did!). The only time I lost it was in the turret~ It was such a small confined area and I HATE Small spaces with lots of people (Heck, I hate large spaces with lots of people). So a shout out thank you to the nice man who got the way cleared for me to get out of there!
Day 2 was spent driving to Myrtle Beach to got the the Ripley's Aquarium *Note: while it is located at "Broadway at the Beach" It is neither on Broadway nor at the beach. After finally finding it, we went in. Um, no offense to the Ripley's people but Fort Fisher Aquarium is way better. But you do have the reef tunnel which is way cool (a conveyor takes you through an underwater tunnel) but that 10 minute tunnel ride does not justify your admission prices. Outside at the Pavilion though..WELL...after the kids threw some fish food into the water and sent them into a frenzy (seriously hundreds of little fish mouths moving above water is not a pretty site!) the kids hit the boardwalk rides- and had a blast. Mommy you ask? I apparently do not have the tolerance for rides that my teenage self did. Kels wanted to go on the buccaneer, no one else would go on. This leaves me. Thanks everyone. We sat in the middle (yes I am the same girl who could ride Looping Starship several times in a row on the back row and not get enough). I wanted to hurl. Kels loved it.
Speaking of hurling- Colin did. We got home and he stood in the middle of my parents living room and just let it go. While I was trying to get him to a bathroom, Mom started cleaning it up and Kelsey kicked her in the head. Not intentionally of course- Kels was trying to walk by her and Mom's head was down and KERCHUNK -we heard it across the room. Mom saw stars, but in an effort to get Kels to stop crying b/c she hurt Mom-Mom just rolled on the floor holding her head saying "I'm okay, I'm alright" over and over. And so ends day 2.
We did make it to the beach several times that week. And I only checked facebook 2 or 3 times so obviously my addiction is not as bad as everyone seems to think it is.
We saw Ice Age 3 in 3D- very very cool and highly recommend it~ those people at Fox and Real D sure know what they're doing. But after dinner was the highlight of the night for me. We went to Longhorn Steakhouse. Where we were served by Shane. Who we referred to as Nick behind his back all night. Did you ever seen Casual Sex? With Lea Thompson. A bad movie from the 80's, bad but funny. There is a guy Nick in it- he is as dumb as a box of hammers but so pretty, so you forgave him. That was Shane.
Well after 2 Lynchberg Lemonades (I'm pretty sure minus the Lynchberg and minus the lemonade) I really didn't care how dumb he was as long as he kept smiling and walked away from the table s l o w l y.
Susie, you'll be happy to know the only thing I really burned bad this year (Up until that moment) was my mouth- we got an order of Wild West Shrimp...Highly recommend it, but just know before digging in with wild abandon- those aren't red peppers it's served with- they're cherry and jalapeno, I popped a big ol slice of red into my mouth thinking it was a red pepper- NO SO MUCH. While Shane was my highlight- that moment was the highlight for everyone else- especially Dad who got to sit across from me. I thought I was going to die!
We also got to see Scott and Mair- who HOOKED me on Funnel Cake Fries (Like I need this addiction). OMG...YUM. And have also inspired yet another paint job for my living room. Y'all know how much I love changing up the room colors. Well they just re-did their kitchen, dining and living room colors and I loved them so much I am copying the kitchen color. We all know when something happens there it has to happen here too (Luckily this time it isn't an appliance break!) Knock on wood.
Hopefully I haven't bored you too much, but now you'll feel like you were spent some time with us this past week.
